Unauthorized changes made to windows error (Vista x64)

Tue, 22/07/2008 - 12:16pm

HI. I got that "Unauthorized change made to windows" message this morning (this seems to be a rather pervasive issue, if the posts I've seen here are any proof). I had last used the my PC on the 5th of July (It's been packed up since then), and it was working fine, with no evidence of any validation issues. I turned it on this morning, and encountered the aforementioned "bundle of joy". I realized relatively quickely it might be a registry issue, and restored it to a previous state. That didn't work, so I thought it might be something I installed. I most recently installed Unreal Tournament 3 (with the associated Dedicated Physics Software, can't remember the name)  Anyway, I uninstalled that (and later found similar advice regarding software that could take 3 or so days to trigger Windows Tampering Protocols) and restarted my PC. Unfortunately, it didn't work (though using the advice just mentioned, I did see UT3 was the last program installed that showed any issues on the other diagnostic tool). I figured it might be a more serious issue, and so performed a system restore. It also failed. I'm at a loss. Given the info below, can you possibly surmise what the issue is? I have the VIsta Ultimate box available, but I'd rather not have to re-install and lose a good chunk of my data. Any help you can give would be appreciated. Thanks!

Tue, 22/07/2008 - 5:49am

I have windows vista. My programs don't work because I never put in the product key code and didn't know the that I was on a trial use. I'm at school in another country and need access to my microsoft programs.

0x80070426: SLC.DLL: Windows has discovered a change that will result in limited windows functionality

Mon, 21/07/2008 - 12:36pm

Can you help me please.

On windows start I receive a Windows error indicating "Windows has discovered a change that will result in limited windows functionality"

I have tried restore prior to latest MS Windows Vista updates, but same error occurs when these updates are downloaded again.

PC is is approx 3 months old:   HP dx2300M, preinstalled with Windows Vista Business (OEM licence).

Also Windows Vista is on auto update and one of these installations keeps failing - but this appears (but not 100%) to have occurred after this issue was identified

Diagnostic report attached.

Windows vista ultimate problem

Mon, 21/07/2008 - 10:10am

hi,

My windows vista ultimate edition showed me an error message right after i logged in.It sayed my installation needed to be repaired because it uses some kind of malicious thing that can somehow extend the trial period (the 30 days period you get before activation is requirerd). My windows installation passed validation ok (genuine) at http://www.microsoft.Com/genuine .I have just done what i needed todo (purchase a legit productkey) received the email with the product key.The only question i have left is how do  i get rid of this malicious thing on it ? i just checked

"i understand this message might  appaer only once" and closed the window (while having the genuine advantage order site in another window) so what do i do now ? i guess the best thing is wait untill the dvd is here and do a clean reinstall

Hi there,

I was advised to post the MGA Diagnostic tool result here, pls check whether it can be helpful in suggesting me a solution.

I have a two versions of microsoft office in my computer

Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003 - 114 Blocked VLK 2

Microsoft Office Standard 2007 - 100 Genuine

I am just using the Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003 for a macro development for a company and that company has given me this CD for developing this macro

But my Microsoft Office Standard 2007 is affected due to this 114,VLK 2 version as highlighted here : Office Status: 114 Blocked VLK 2

I try to reinstall my Microsoft Office Standard 2007, but no use, it is still using the product key of Office 2003

Though I can create .xls files in Microsoft office 2007, there are some libraries, date format etc different in Microsoft Office Standard 2007. Hence I am forced to do the macro in Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003 otherwise it may not work properly at the target machine.

Please help me!!! Thank you.

Unauthorized change to Windows

Mon, 21/07/2008 - 2:38am

I have been running Windows Vista Business on an Apple MacBook Pro under a boot camp partition since August of 2007. I have used that partition with both Parallels Desktop and VMware fusion during that time period with minor WGA annoyances. I had to re-install completely once in the past because WGA authorization locked me out. It was my understanding that it did not violate the EULA to use Vista Business under a virtual machine or directly on the same computer.

I installed an update to VMWare fusion, 1.1.3 that was supposed to improve compatibility with WGA in early June. I don't recall seeing any problems with Validation. I had some hardware compatibilty issues with VMWare fusion and was running Vista in native bootcamp mode for two weeks. When I started up VMWare fusion again, I got the message

This copy of Windows did not pass genuine validation.

Either an unauthorized change was made to your Windows license or a software program installed on this computer is not currently compatible with Windows Vista.

I can still run my Vista in bootcamp, but I'd really rather be running it in VMWare for numerous reasons. Here is the report from the Genuine Advantage Validation tool:   Diagnostic Report (1.7.0095.0):

update failed to install now I have windows vista that is not genuine

Sun, 20/07/2008 - 8:25am

When downloading updates it finished and said that it failed to install and had to uninstall them.  I restarted compuer and then it says in corner my windows is not a genuine product.   I went online and verified that it was genuine.  It was preloaded on machine thats less that 2 weeks old.  I am now downloading the update again.  What do I do about the validation problem?  I'm not a pro at computers so I hope someone can help me.

Activation not working

Sun, 20/07/2008 - 2:13am

I installed Service Pack 1, and when I restarted, it said I needed to activate windows:

-The sticker on the bottom of my computer came back as invalid

-Tried calling, the person gave me a new code that also didnt work

-Now when I enter my number, it says activation finished, but then I STILL cant log in! it just keeps saying I need to activate!

-I run diagnostics and it confirms I have windows genuine.

What am I doing wrong?? this is a brand new computer!

thanks,

Desktop Running Vista with problem validating, etc.

Sun, 20/07/2008 - 1:36am

I have a Dell computer that came installed with Vista Home Premium a  1 1/2 yr. old.  Major problems with computer.

1) Trying to install updates but keep getting error message stating the updates were not configured correctly, reverting changes do not turn off computer. This keeps doing this on a nightly basis or everytime I shut down my computer. It seems to be in some type of a loop hole. It says something to the fact about updating, don't shut down the computer?? 2) When that's done I get an message that states Optional update delivery is not working. You may be a victim of software counterfeiting. Go online & validate. I do this and says it can not validate. 3) I also have gotten error message Windows Activiation Error, Error Code 0x80070426. 4) I can not use my control panel, windows updates, games, printer, etc... I can use the internet, all my files, my scanner and my programs. I ran a System File Checker and it came back saying Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them. I'm at a loss. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm not all that  computer smart so please bear with me.

Re: WGA Validation Problems

Sat, 19/07/2008 - 11:15am

I was advised to post in this forum regarding Windows Vista Home Premium. I am one hundred percent certain that it is genuine, but Windows isn't working, and in the lower right corner it says Build 6000  This copy of Windows is not genuine.

I followed the instructions, and typed in my product key on the OEM Software sticker. I did the trouble shooter on the Microsoft website, and at the end of it, it said:

The validation service is unable to determine whether this copy of Windows Vista is genuine. So, even though I have my product key, it can't be validated?  Please help.

This is genuine windows. You say it's not. Why don't you have a program we can run to find out what we have that is messing this up? Everything I download says it's compatable with Microsoft. My running system is all Microsoft. How can I find the problem?
