I moved to Latin America and installed my old XP Pro on a new desktop PC. Worked perfectly for a few years, now suddenly I get the message that it might have been falsified. The dvd is the backup copy of the old original disk which had been damaged.
What I can see at first glance is that I have a "Geographically blocked PID". Can Windows lose its validity because I move to another country?
Anyway if I follow the links that MS is offering, I would have to buy Windows 8, which not only means waste days and days with reinstalling all software (of which in some cases I don't even have the exe files because I installed right away from the internet)
but also there is some to me important software that runs only with XP. So among others I would have to upgrade the old Autocad for thousands of USD although I am quite happy with the one I have.
I would rather like to buy a new XP Pro license for the installed system, than waste lots of time and money for non-MS software updates. Is this possible?
Here is my data:

I wanted to uninstall Symantec antivirus on our Vista home premium laptop because of the incompatability problem documented already.
However, coming up in safe mode, when I tried to uninstall (via control panel), I got the dialog box with the message: The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for assistance.
Not sure what to try next. Any suggestions?
Well I loaned out my computer to my son for online classes for several months, & once I got it back it was totally a mess! Half the needed files were missing, causing me to freak. There was no hope in restoring it without reinstalling the OS. The only problem is that it has been quite awhile since I've had to use the disk, that in several moves I seemed to have lost the product key. Of course being unemployed at this time I can't afford to just go buy a new copy, leaving me in a hard place not being able to activate my windows. This is causing so much problems, plus for some reason it doesn't seem to have all the files needed, I try to update my computer but it says error & won't even let me know if I have any needed updates. What do I do? Plus I have no clue where to find the Windows Activation Wizard! Can someone please help me, I can't go much longer without activating my windows cause my time limit is almost up, & without being able to use my computer I won't be able to do my work or pay my bills.
Please help me,
Desperately over stressed, & quarantee I will never loan out my computer again, sorry kids but it ain't worth it.
Mrs. Batson
After my flatmate managed to install spyware on my main pc, i reformatted and reinstalled XP.
However when trying to validate (over the internet didn't work) the guy on the phone said my activation code was blocked because it had been activated 80+ times!!!!
Now, i bought this pc new and have only had to reinstall once, about 4 years ago when my motherboard died, and the phone activation went fine. I've got the receipt and certificate of authenticity and i don't see how 80+ people could have got my activation key since then???
So here's the diag tool output:

Anyone got any ideas how this might have happened? Will check back tomo, after i've called local customer support... Thanks.
I need some sleep! o_O
I had to set my Dell back to factory settings and now I can't use the Office Home and Student 2007 program that was on the computer. I tried the 'key' that is on the computer case and the one that is on the disc cover. How do I get the program(s) to work? I tried using the disc to 'repair' the problem but it still requires a key to even open the programs. Please help!
This is my report from the MS Genuine Advantage Diagnostic Tool. This XP Professional copy came preloaded on a Lenovo T61, Type 7663-B15, refurbished and sold by IBM Credit, which I purchased 12/27/11. I have Microsoft Security Essentials, received continuous updates from MS, and did not start receiving the notice thru Security Essentials that my Windows copy didn't pass validation until a few days ago. I ran a full scan yesterday with up to date definitions and no viruses were detected. What could have changed?

Hello
[first time post-er]
I have a Compaq Presario sr5210nx desktop computer with Vista Home Premium OEM installed. This machine was given to me by a friend, as they were having problems with it and upgraded to a newer computer. I decided to do a Restore of the factory image contained
on the hidden partition about three weeks ago. At the time, I assumed it was still a valid installation and not in need of re-activation. I did not get any notification pop-ups and I must confess that I also didn't check on the activation status
on the System Properties page, either. I guess I assumed that since the computer had been pre-activated when new I didn't even think of checking after the factory restore.
After about a week of use, the motherboard was "fried" by what I ultimately discovered was a defective power supply, which I now believe was the source of the problems experienced by the previous user. The machine would no longer boot up, even when
I replaced the power supply with a compatible known good unit. I therefore ordered a new motherboard, the same make and model as the old board [Intel 945gct-hm]. This board was not, however, an OEM replacement from HP.
My research at the time suggested that I could replace the motherboard with the same make and model without the need to re-activate Vista. However, just yesterday [one week after replacing the motherboard and installing a new power supply] I noticed on the
System Properties page that I had 8 days left to Activate. If the Initial Grace Period is 30 days, then the countdown clock was started when I restored the factory image approximately 3 weeks ago. Evidently, the fact that I also replaced the defective
motherboard and power supply in the interim did not restart the 30 day clock.
In reading other posts on this forum, I downloaded the MGA Diagnostic and ran it.
The Validation status shows "genuine" but at the bottom of the report in the OEM Activation 2.0 Data area it states: "BIOS valid for OA 2.0: yes, but no SLIC table". I am assuming the missing SLIC Table had been present in the BIOS
chip of the old motherboard but not in the new one. Am I correct?
The Activation Wizard fails with the following Error Code: 0xC004E003 -- "SLIC reports license evaluation failed".
Will I be able to resolve this issue over the phone with Microsoft and get the Vista OS re-activated? I have already called HP Tech Support and they said they could handle this problem for a service contract fee of $49.99 which would involve remote assistance,
or a one time fee of $99 just to take care of re-activation.
Thanks in advance...

I have a HP Pavilion dv7 running Windows Vista. The laptop is four years old and I have owned it since new. I ran the diagnostic report, as requested in this forum, and have copied it below.
Other info: I can no longer read the Windows license number on the bottom of my laptop, I run Norton 360 on my computer, there was a Windows (I think) update two days ago just before the problems happened and I also loaded Turbotax a day later.
In looking at other postings, I did try recovery manager to reset the system to just before the last windows update. It looked like things worked ok but then after restarting again, the same problem was back.
Thanks for any help! Roy.
