I was given this laptop by my cousin with windows xp professional but I wanted to erase everything to start from the beginning. Since my cousin didn't have the original CDs I asked for help and a friend gave me a CD to install windows XP from the beginning. I noticed that during the installation it didn't ask me for the product key but I thought it will ask fot it later. When I searched for updates the genuine advantage tool was installed and I was notified that my installation is not genuine. But my laptop has a product key of windows xp professional and I don't know hot to erase the invalid one and activate windows with the product key of my laptop.

Hello Microsoft and everyone who reads my new thread.

I am writing you because my sister's pc has a problem, i think.

First of all, she has Windows Vista 32 bit operating system and she is the administrator!

She has made a Guest Account for me and i could access everytime and do everything.

So, someday, something went wrong and when i opened the pc and select to access my account , as always i got a message : "Welcome" , and suddenly i got a message : "Disconnecting..." , you know the message that pops up when we turn off the computer and after that, it leads me back to the users. I told that to my sister and she disabled the Guest account and she enabled it again. Unfortunatelly, i had the same problem . I cannot access to my Guest account for an unknown reason! Please if someone know how to fix it or has any ideas, i wanna know! I would really appreciate if you could help me!

Hi All,

I'm developing dot net framework application where i am working on things related to Activation and installation based on Windows WDS.

I have checked across and found Slmgr is perhaps one of the approach to do that. So here is my case:-

I want to just validate whether a product Key supplied is valid or not. I repeat i just want to validate a windows 7 product key.

I used following command(on the command prompt), and supplied the product key:-

C:\windows\system32>Slmgr /ipk XXXXX XXXXX XXXXX XXXXX XXXXX

Well i have given a invalid key so it threw me error "Product key Invalid", as expected no issues in that !

My query is that if i give a genuine product key to above command, will my windows 7 gets activated or it will just validate the key and i will have to activate the windows on my own.

If i use Slmgr /ipk XXXXX XXXXX XXXXX XXXXX XXXXX, will this activate the windows or just validate it.

I cannot find any concrete explanation except one on technet : http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff793433.aspx

 But above are just options related to the Slmgr i just want to validate a key whether it is genuine.

I repeat, i just want to validate the key and don't want to activate it, my sole purpose is to just validate the product key and not to activate windows.

I have checked options in WMI API, but they also provide a method of Avtivate(), which will activate my windows.

Is there anyway in Slmgr to just validate a product key, or any other approach through which i can validate the product key. Is there any documentation available on what things Slmgr /ipk will do, and can it solve my purpose.

I need this file to play Swtor. When I go to the page to authenticate the file downloads and runs and comes up saying that my version of windows isn't legit. It is however. So I looked through the forums and found another link to validate windows. That one comes up saying my version is valid and then takes me to a different page that has nothing to do with what I was trying to. When I go back to the original validation page it works saying that I am valid as the other page did, but still will not let me download this file. I am at my witts end with this thing. My computer is 6 yrs old running win xp home and it will not handle an upgrade to 7 or 8 but runs completely fine for everything else. I need to get this to work so that I can play with my husband while I am away for a long period of time. I know most people might think this is stupid and I am sorry. Hi there, i am having the same issue, i attempted to follow the steps as suggested by it brings up a search engine rather than file list.

Any idea's?

i have a home built pc, i brought a full copy of Windows and have installed a few times, this is the first issue i have ever had.  i recently updated the mothere boards, and installed windows maybe ive gone over the number of times you can stall it?

After running for a few years now with no recent hardware changes I started getting this error message. I have already checked software licensing services and it is set to automatic. If I attempt to start the service, I get

"windows could not start the Software Licensing service on Local Computer.  Error 9xd0000022: 0xd0000022"

If I attempt to start the service as an admin from the cmd prompt, I get:

I've had this computer for 5 years now and suddenly it says my Windows is not genuine. My background is completely black and my computer keeps giving me alerts to activate Windows. There is no error code on the screen. On the bottom right of my screen it says:
